Speech therapists diagnose and treat communication disorders including difficulties with speaking and understanding language. Blossom Speech Therapy is a pediatric speech language therapy service provider that primarily focuses on working with children who have difficulty with articulation of speech sounds, understanding and using language, or those who require use of augmentative and alternative communication. Speech therapy services are often provided to those with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays, genetic disorders, and more. Your child does not need to hold a formal diagnosis in order to receive speech language therapy services. Through use of evaluation tools your speech language therapist will determine if your child has difficulty developing early language skills, using verbal language, pronouncing words, understanding language, or producing sentences containing age expected grammar and sentence structure. If you have concerns regarding your child's development and use of language and are unsure if it is developmentally appropriate set up a free phone consultation with us.
Articulation therapy focuses on helping your child correctly pronounce speech sounds.
Language therapy focuses on expanding understanding of language (e.g., following directions, understanding basic concepts, answering questions) and expanding use of language (e.g., putting words together into sentences, producing grammatically and syntactically appropriate sentences, formulating stories).
Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is for those who require different modalities to communicate that either support or replace verbal communication. This can include: body language, facial expressions, gestures, sign language, picture supports, and high tech speech generating devices to name a few.
Early Intervention services are for children aged birth to three years old. Research supports the earlier a child's delay is caught and worked on the better chance they have to catch back up to developmental expectations.
